decision of Clear Channel Communications, the world's largest radio network and owner of 1,170 radio stations in the U.S. alone, to ban from its stations more than 150 songs it considers "lyrically inappropriate" in the wake of last week's attacks. These include classic calls for peace and understanding (John Lennon's "Imagine" and Cat Stevens's "Peace Train"), songs which reference New York (Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," AC/DC's "Safe In New York City," The Drifters' "On Broadway"), songs with apocalyptic themes (Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction," R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World As We Know It," The Doors' "The End"), songs which mention airplanes or flight (Peter, Paul and Mary's "Leavin' On a Jet Plane," Elton John's "Benny and the Jets," Steve Miller's "Jet Airline," Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'"), anything remotely violent (Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield," Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe," an endless number of hard rock and metal songs), and anything political (U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday," all Rage Against the Machine songs).
