Dear Mr.Zuckerberg,
We are writing to you on behalf of the Ukrainian Facebook community. We are deeply concerned about the facts of politically-motivated blocking of the prominent FB-users. As you know, at this time Russian Federation is undertaking an unprecedented military and informational aggression towards Ukraine. The civilized society worldwide, as well as the United States, condemns such actions. Among total informational blockade and aggressive pro-Russian propaganda, Facebook remains probably the most important channel for delivering the information about the events at hotspots of this war, as well as the only way of communication between those Ukrainians, who reside on the territories, currently occupied by the Russian military forces.
However, prominent authors of Ukrainian Facebook segment are being more and more frequently attacked by organized pro-Putin groups of Russian users, whose actions are financed by the entities affiliated with the Russian authorities. As an example, three days ago a profile of a well-known Ukrainian blogger Sergii Ivanov (
www.facebook.com/applecrysis) was blocked after his post appealed to the mothers of Russian soldiers not to let their sons participate in the military aggression of Putin’s regime against Ukraine. It was the third blockage of this author’s account in the past four weeks. Also, on August 26, another famous blogger, Alex Zavodyuk’s (
www.facebook.com/alex.zavodyuk) page was blocked.
Such banning takes place as a result of the “complaints” from organized groups of fake users, registered on the territory of Russian Federation. This list goes on and on… We have found out, that the Ukrainian segment of FB is administered by a person with Russian citizenship, the country, that is killing dozens of Ukrainians on a daily basis using heavy weaponry operated by Russian military. It is widely known, that Facebook corporation is a social network aimed at the freedom of speech and not propaganda. And to the best of our knowledge, Facebook’ activity is based on respect for dignity, civil rights and freedom of all people, regardless of their social status, racial or political affiliation. We are currently observing severe violation of these principals by the Russian administration of Ukrainian Facebook. Such obvious mismanagement encourages further informational war between Ukrainian and Russian people and benefits the state that has been recognized worldwide as the AGGRESSOR.
In light of the above mentioned facts, we hereby ask you to consider the possibility of changing the administrator of Ukrainian Facebook for a citizen of Ukraine or any neutral country, which has no vested interest in further escalation of the conflict.
Mark, we are all aware and highly respectful of your humanitarian position and consistence with which it is being upheld. In view of this, we are calling for your immediate intervention into this situation, as the owner of the company which reputation is being undermined by the actions of its employee.
Respectfully,
