Ludacris only has one scene in Fred Claus, but you’ll remember him. As an elf DJ in Santa’s workshop, it’s his head on a little body. He only plays Here Comes Santa Claus, which drives Fred Claus crazy. We asked the full sized Ludacris about his little role in the film and his ongoing dual career in film and music.

CraveOnline: What was the whole process with the blue screen and putting your head on the little body?

Ludacris: That was realistically my first time really doing that. I mean, it was a little challenging, but because I have rhythm, it was a lot easier for an individual like myself. It was fun, because I just kept laughing as I was doing it. There was a green screen there. I had to look at the screen and mimic the movements of the actual little person. So of course, just me, looking even when Vince picked him up a kind of had to get out a chair and as far as the neck and the body everything had to kind of coordinate the same way. So it took me about two days to get everything right, but it was a fun process and it was definitely hilarious for me. I was laughing way before I saw the finished product. If anybody remembers like the Roll Out video or the Stand Up video where my head was on the baby, it's kind of similar. I've done this in my music videos before, which is why it was so much fun doing this.

CraveOnline: What was your reaction to seeing that for the first time?

Ludacris: Man, I was laughing even harder when I saw it, but of course they pitched my voice and made even higher also. So that was a funny element to it, but just the facial expression. Like I say, sometimes I surprise myself. The scene was crazy, especially when he got angry of course and didn't want to change his song. I got picked up but that was funny.

CraveOnline: What was your thought process in picking this role? Do you want to be different in movies than you are in music?

Ludacris: I took on this role just for the fact that it was different. I mean, a lot of the role that I have done have been serious roles like from Crash and Hustle and Flow, and even the Law and Order: SVU and this is my first comedy/family film. I wanted to be able to take my daughter to the movies and see this also. So with that being said, when you look at some of the earlier videos like I was saying, [they had] a lot of comedy and I just love to laugh and that's really why I took on this role. And of course I knew because of the cast and I love the script. The first time I've read it was laughing out loud funny..

CraveOnline: There’s a great soundtrack, but why aren’t you on it?

Ludacris: At the rolling credits, I actually did a remix to Here Comes Santa Claus. So you can check that out the Ludacris version. It's definitely something to keep staying in your seat for and then as far as me musically I'm working on my sixth album. It's called A Theater of the Mind. So that should be out in 2008.

CraveOnline: What’s next for you then, a tour?

Ludacris: It all depends. Nothing is confirmed as of right now. But the next movie is the RocknRoller film that we were talking about. And that's Warner Bros. also. So that'll be out fall of 2008. As far as tours are concerned, though probably expect something coming out. Probably spring of 2008.

CraveOnline: Is there any of your music in RockRoller?

Ludacris: We're still in the stages. I mean, I don't know if we know about that just yet. They're in post production. So I'm sure we will find out that soon.

CraveOnline: This is a Christmas movie, so what is your fondest memory of your best Christmas?

Ludacris: Yeah, my memorable Christmas, I was six years old, and in the middle of the night during Christmas Eve, I got up to go to the bathroom and I peeked in the living room and saw my father eating Santa’s cookies and milk. I was devastated. It was a traumatic experience for me and I'm still getting over that to this day. So it made me realize sort of analyzing the situation and asking a lot of questions. So from there I realized that Santa Claus was not real. It wasn't a good Christmas for me.

CraveOnline: Did you base your elf DJ character on anyone?

Ludacris: No, it was written as DJ Donny. I did a little ad-libbing of course. Just being myself, but as far as it was concerned it was pretty much written the way it was. I mean, I didn't have many choices of records to play, because all I did was play Here Comes Santa Claus, but I use my previous DJ experience to come into that role.

CraveOnline: Do you have a song that when you hear it over and over again, you just want to kill someone?

Ludacris: Probably one of my songs like Roll Out or something. It's crazy to do a song and be happy that you hear it on the radio but you know, sometimes you hear it too much. So you don't even want to hear yourself anymore, but it's a blessing and a curse at the same time.

CraveOnline: Will you keep doing music and movies at the same time, or start to do more movies?

Ludacris: Well, I mean, when I'm like 45 I don't plan on performing on BET or anything like that, but now I would really say that the transition is being made to where I'm kind of getting into acting more. I think that I will always be music, whether I'm behind the scenes or in front of the camera. I think that's something that I love but the acting, I'm definitely getting more and more into and trying to see how far I can go absolutely.
