Def Jam/Roc-A-Fella Records artist Jadakiss, gave an exclusive interview on the new Come Up DVD explaining why the music industry is “fucked up,” who the "hot" artists of ’07 were, and more details on his upcoming album.
Jadakiss claimed that the top reason why the music industry is suffering poor sales is due to a lack of creativity and the increase of new technology.
“The game is fucked up. A bunch of ring tone, tight pants wearing motherfuckers. [The] music is garbage,” Jada said. “All this uploading and downloading is fucking shit up.”
He also spoke about the changed pace of marketing and the responsibilities of the individual artist increasing.
“You need your own staff and be willing to work. It’s a business at the end of the day. Either the music wasn’t right or you didn’t handle your business,” Jada said.
Jada specifically named T.I., Kanye West, and Alicia Keys as artists who dropped hot material and were able to sell records.
He also went in to detail in regards to his upcoming untitled third album release. While he had jokingly claimed he would name it Kiss My Ass a few years ago, Jada is still considering an official title.
“A lot of people ask me if I’m still naming the album that. Nas is dropping Nigger, why can’t I drop Kiss My Ass?” Jada asked.
Admitting that the album still needs more work, he is hoping to have it released as early as April, if not May. Jada said he is still looking to try to work with Kanye West, Just Blaze, Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, Timbaland, Toomp and possibly Pharrell.
“If it’s hot, let’s have it. If not, then keep it. Give it to the enemy,” Jada said in regards to production on his next album.
'Kiss also explained the importance of supporting some of the more recognized and respected Hip Hop artists, even asking fans to buy the latest release from his former rival, Beanie Sigel.
