Muggs Jacken intekas:
Muggz and Sick Jacken take the time to hang out with our very own LatinaBeatz for an exclusive Question and Answer session.
For all the Cypress Hill and Psycho Realm fans, this album is a dream come true, What was it like to work with Muggs?
Jack- It was a great experience. Muggs is one of the classic producers in this game. I had to make sure I came with it when I stepped in his vocal booth.
Explain the concept behind "The Legend of the Mask & The Assassin"
Jack- "Legend" is a real visual album. We got reality and took it off it's hinges for a little while. We play with conspiracy theories, truths, and words to take the listener on a trip. It's what a concept album is supposed to do.
Cynic of Street Platoon/Sick Symphonies is featured on this album, what role
does he play? (how many tracks is he on)
Jack- Cynic is my right hand man on this one, The way Ghost was on the "Cuban Link" record for Raekwon. He's on almost every track, wether it's a hook, bridge or a verse. The kid can spit
Is there anyone else featured on a track?
Jack- Musically, Shavo from S.O.A.D is on a track. We kept it in a classic PR format and handled the record ourselves vocally. If anything, we'll get features for the iTunes bonus tracks and the international bonus tracks.
Do you guys have a system of who produces each track? Or is it a collaborative effort?
Jack- Muggs produced the whole record. In this new series of albums he's doing, the "VS." series, he does the music half of the project. I left my producer hat at home for this one.
What track is your favorite?
Jack- I like the whole record. My favorite track switches every week. Right now I like "Reptilian Renaissance" & "Land of Shadows"
Can you predict a possible Muggs vs. Jacken part 2?
Jack- I can't predict the future, but I'm down for a sequel. We have a lot of things coming out of this record that are going to stir up a movement of their own. A "part 2" looks very possible.
After hearing Muggs and Gza with "The GrandMasters," did you have an idea of what you wanted to do with this album?
.
Jack- Yea, something completely different. It definitely set a bar though. I couldn't come with anything less than the best I could do at this moment in time.
Congratulations on launching your own Record Label through Universal "Rebel Music Group," Is this album going to be released on it?
Jack- It'll be the first record on my label, and what better record to launch a company with, than this one. The Rebellion is coming...
The buzz and anticipation of this album is already huge, everyone's talking about it. Recently you guys released a track "The Mask & The Assassin" on your Myspace.com profiles, do you plan to release other tracks before the album is dropped?
Jack- We'll be putting out a spanish track with a video before the release. We might put out some extra songs on B-Sides also, When the 12"s start dropping
When is the official release date?
Jack- September 11th, 2007 Mark your calenders
Do you have any shows/appearances coming up?
Jack- We're planning to tour the world with this one. We are in the middle of looking in dates right now
Not surprisingly everyone buys their music mainly from online, what websites can people buy the album from?
Jack- They will be able to pick it up at Rebelmusic.LA and iTunes. They can also visit our myspace pages and link directly to online stores. File sharing is what some people do also. They need to understand that if they like our music, supporting it by purchasing it helps us continue to make music through. Support the movement
Is there any Spanish tracks?
Jack- There's a few Spanish tracks on there. Raw, Hip Hop, Spanish Tracks.
With the exception of Cynic, Is it different making an entire album without the
rest of Psycho Realm/Sick Symphonies members?
Jack- Of course it is. With the Psycho Realm I had the luxury of having Duke. I was the producer and 2nd vocalist of the group. With the SS, I had the Street Platoon and DJ FM, all of whom produce and MC. I'm surrounded by a group of very talented individuals, with ideas and music that set us apart from most. On this one, I'm the front man. I can't slack and get away with it. I had to keep the reputation of the crew pristine
How much fun was this album from a story telling aspect with the theme of the "Mask & the Assassin"
Jack- It gave me room to be creative in the writing aspect. I love writing, taking words and creating a picture with them. The Mask & The Assassin are two real characters that I put in a surreal setting. That combined with a bottle of Whiskey.. Forget about it. It was Disneyland
With this new album and your new record label, what else do you have going on?
Jack- Right now the label is my priority, so anything surrounding that, I'm focusing on. This record, my Spanish album, and any projects coming out through RMG. I'll also be working on some other projects with the camp though. Street Platoon is working on a new record. I'm on ILL BILL's new mixtape, and I'll be featured on a track on his new album "The Hour of Reprisal". I just did a track with Immortal Technique called "Hpllywood Drive-By". I'm also extended La Coka Nostra Family, so I'll be working with them on their record as well. Look for me on all the real hip hop shit coming out in the next few years.
Where can people go to find up to date information on Muggs Vs. Jacken?
Jack- They can visit us on our Myspace pages, MuggsvsJacken,SickJacken or DJMuggs. The Rebelmusic.LA website will be up soon also. Stay Sick.
With the politics in radio today, do you see this album breaking the mold and playing all over mainstream radio?
Muggs- This album is in no way intended for the radio. I have never intended for any of my records to ever get on the radio, if radio wants to play it so be it. This record will be highly respected by true artists and people of substance I couldm't care less about the top 40 fans. This is a true piece of art not a fast food chain record.
With the huge success of your 2005 mash up with Gza of the legendary Wu-Tang clan titled "The Grandmasters", what did you learn from that experience? And how do you think those experiences will come into play with this album?
Muggs- I have learned the record business is in a state of emergency. You got to have custom marketing plans that directly target fans and performing live has always been the best promotion.
How would you describe your creative process with this album?
Muggs- Pretty simple. We came with a name of the album and the album cover concept then headed into the studio a few days a week amd collaborated. We let the energy of the record take on a life of it's own and helped guide us right were we needed to go.
Will you release an instrumental of this new album?
Muggs- As of today there are no plans.
You have known Jacken for years, what made him the choice for the sequel? What do you think sets him apart from others in the game?
Muggs- I didn't choose jack and he didn't choose me it was totally organic how it happened because it was time. All the stars were aligned. Jack still is raw and uncut; He has the same music sensibility as me which lets me be creative in a way most rappers are scared of.
Whose creative idea, was it for the title "The Legend of the Mask & the Assassin"?
Muggs- Jack came up wit the album title.
Do you ever see yourself rocking the Mic one day?
Muggs- I have rocked some courses hear and there in the past but raping is not a passion of mine by any means.
Would you say this album mainly consists of solely you and Jacken production/beat/lyrics wise? With the exception of Cynic? or is there other people involved and if so, who?
Muggs- This album is 100 percent me. Jack and Cynic.
This album can be considered possibly a sequel to GrandMasters, Do you have plans to do more in the future?
Muggs- No, it is not a sequel to GrandMasters. It is its own piece of art that
stands alone. I do have plans on doing a DJ Muggs Vs King Madallions record
witch is 50% done all ready
For all the Cypress fans, I hear there's news of a new album, how would you describe it and when's the release date?
Muggs- B real is producing the new Cypress album I will probably do 3 or 4 songs at the end but I have no idea how it is going at this time. I am not involved. (
блять это вобще АХУЕТЬ, я блять чтото такое чувсвовал, тока както недумал проето, бля пиздец какоито, вобще нахуй бля )
What other projects do you have in the works?
