cuz i'm an ex-ref here and an ex-ref in several other battles. i know how [discussing ref's choices/ideas/grades] looks from the other side. plus we're always hard pressed for a competent judge [willing to sacrifice a chance to participate as contestant] when it comes to starting a new battle, so anybody competent is welcome to have the honour. discussing refs/reffing automatically means one thinks he's good enough, so we are happy to give the person a chance to prove it with his/her competent reffing, is all.
